During 2015, First Lutheran Church celebrated 250 years of ministry in Christ’s name. One of the ways we celebrated was through monthly community outreach projects. Typically our goal involved collecting at least 250 items or $250 for each month’s project.
During the year, we collected a total of $14,280.87 and over 6,000 items to give away to organizations serving people in need near and far!
January — $265.00 plus 352 items including hats & scarves for Carlisle C.A.R.E.S.
February — $2,365.00 plus 45 grocery store gift cards and 1 iTunes card for PA Wounded Warriors
March — $829.00 plus 119 canned hams (= 395 hams!) for Project SHARE
April — $2,521.50 = 252 mosquito nets for the ELCA Malaria Campaign
May — $740.00 plus 268 household items for Domestic Violence
June — $893.75, equivalent to four scholarships for the YMCA day camp
July — $2,113.35 plus over 4,750 school items = 250 school kits for Lutheran World Relief
August — $600.00 plus too many school supplies, socks and underwear to count for Head Start
September — $1,035.00 for our sister parish in El Salvador, Divine Redeemer
October — $550.27 plus 377 food items for the Gettysburg Seminary student food pantry
November — $1,410 plus 185 toys distributed evenly between Toys for Tots and Salvation Army
