MUSIC & CHOIRS

Chancel Choir – Easter Sunday 2023 (photo by Janelle Hoch)

The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the word of God through music. Martin Luther

Following Martin Luther’s example, we place great emphasis on congregational singing of hymns and liturgical music at First Lutheran. Our nave has wonderful acoustics and an Aeolian-Skinner organ regarded as one of the finest pipe organs in south central Pennsylvania for leading congregational song.

While we are being staffed by an interim Sunday organist and very part-time choir director (please see information about our Minister of Music search here: Meet the Staff), we have one active ensemble, our Chancel Choir, which is singing approximately twice a month. The Chancel Choir historically has helped lead our 10:30 a.m. liturgy weekly from early September through Holy Trinity Sunday in late May/early June. On the Second or Third Sunday of Advent each year, the choir leads a service of Lessons and Carols to which all are invited.

We are always happy to welcome new singers to the Chancel Choir! We rehearse Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m. in the choir room, concluding with fellowship and refreshments, from early September through late May/early June.
